Senior Professor at the Department of Dermatology, Environmental Medicine, and Health Theory at the University of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony, Germany. Research coordinator of Institute for Interdisciplinary Dermatological Prevention and Rehabilitation (iDerm) and director of the Lower-Saxonian Institute of Occupational Dermatology. Prof. John has a special interest in occupational dermatology and allergology, particularly focusing on the prevention of occupational skin diseases through interdisciplinary approaches and workers’ education. Another scientific focus is skin barrier susceptibility and environmental medicine. 

He has authored more than 400 scientific papers (h-index 59) and has served and is currently serving as lead editor for major key textbooks in the field, such as Kanerva’s Occupational Dermatology. He has been a World Health Organization and International Labour Organization expert for years. He chairs the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Force on Occupational Skin. In 2023, he was awarded the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) Certificate of International Leadership for his contributions to dermatology. He is interested in milk research and potential breastmilk-related effects in the primary prevention of diseases of civilization.
